Georgia Doesn't Wait

Arrive before 2:30pm, transfer to the hotel, and step straight into a Tbilisi fully lit up for Christmas week. Wander the main Christmas fair — handmade crafts, street food, mulled wine, and a shot of chacha likely appearing in your hand before you've asked for one.

Highlight of the Day: That first walk through Tbilisi's Christmas fair when the fairy lights come on, the chacha appears and you realise this country is going to be nothing like what you expected.

Into the Vines

Drive east into Kakheti, the wine region of a country that invented wine 8,000 years ago, for the PTT Secret Experience and a stop at Bodbe Monastery. Then Sighnaghi, the City of Love — walk its medieval walls at sunset as the valley below turns gold. Sleep in an igloo dome above it all.

Tbilisi From Above

Drive back to Tbilisi for Narikala Fortress and Kartlis Deda, the 20-metre Mother of Georgia statue overlooking the city. Ride the Mtatsminda funicular up to 770 metres for sweeping views. Evening free for the sulphur baths or dinner in the old town.

🌙 Overnight: Tbilisi

The Road That Legends Are Made Of

Drive the legendary Georgian Military Highway, stopping at the Zhinvali Reservoir and the 16th century Ananuri Fortress. The road climbs north through the Caucasus as snow takes over the landscape, ending at Gudauri — a ski resort at 2,196 metres.

Highlight of the Day: That first moment the Caucasus opens up fully around you on the Military Highway and you realise this road has been making people stop and stare for two thousand years. For good reason.

Peak Georgia

Visit the Friendship Monument, then take 4x4s up a snowy mountain track to Gergeti Trinity Church at 2,170 metres, with Mount Kazbek rising behind it. Afternoon free to ski, snowboard, sled, or just take in the mountains. Last night in Gudauri.

Ancient Capitals & The Night Georgia Goes Crazy

Drive south to Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital, visiting the Living Pillar Cathedral and Jvari Monastery, then the striking Chronicles of Georgia monument. Back in Tbilisi by evening for New Year's Eve — fireworks, chacha, and strangers greeting you like family until dawn.

Frequently Asked

Depends on your passport history. If you hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa, you can enter Georgia visa-free — no application, no waiting, just show up. If you don't hold any of these, you'll need to apply for a Georgian e-Visa online before departure. The process is straightforward: apply on the official portal, upload your documents and receive approval within five working days. The fee is approximately $20 USD. Make sure your passport has at least six months' validity from your date of travel. PTT will share the exact application link and a step-by-step guide with all confirmed travellers.

Fly into Tbilisi International Airport (TBS). Common connections from India include via Dubai, Baku, Doha and Abu Dhabi — Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Air Arabia and flydubai all operate this route regularly. Book early for the Christmas and New Year window since it fills up fast across all connecting hubs and fares spike closer to departure. Flights are not included in the trip cost.

Cold, genuinely and properly — that's entirely the point. Tbilisi in late December sits around 2–8°C with occasional light snow. Sighnaghi is similar: crisp, clear and beautiful in winter light. Gudauri is a full-on winter mountain resort at 2,196 metres, with temperatures between -5°C and -15°C, heavy snowfall and typically excellent ski conditions. Pack thermals, a proper winter jacket, waterproof boots and warm layers for the mountains specifically.

Less than you'd think. Gergeti Trinity Church, the most dramatic stop on the itinerary, is reached entirely by 4x4 — no hiking required. The Sighnaghi wall walk and Mtskheta visits are easy, flat and accessible. The most physically demanding thing on this trip is optional skiing in Gudauri. General good health and the ability to walk comfortably in cold weather is all you need.

One of the most pleasantly surprising things about Georgia for Indian travellers is how affordable it is. A full sit-down meal with wine at a good Tbilisi restaurant costs the equivalent of ₹600–1,200 per person. Wine by the bottle at a local restaurant starts around ₹300. Street food, coffee and transport are all significantly cheaper than Western Europe and most of Southeast Asia.

It's the opposite of random. Having spent New Year's Eve in Tbilisi firsthand, it is genuinely one of the best places on earth to be on December 31st. While mainland Europe shuts down and empties its streets by midnight, Georgia does the exact opposite — the whole city comes alive, fireworks go off from every corner simultaneously, and complete strangers pour you chacha and wish you a happy new year like you're family. Nobody goes home after midnight.

Because Tbilisi is one city and Georgia is an entire country. Most operators use Tbilisi as a base and run rushed day trips to Kakheti, Kazbegi and Mtskheta. PTT stays overnight in Sighnaghi because waking up in an igloo dome above the Alazani Valley is a completely different experience, and stays two nights in Gudauri because one night is enough to arrive, but two is enough to actually be there. The overnight stays are not a logistical decision — they're the entire point.
